Tony Armstrong and his new girlfriend Rona Glynn-McDonald reveal how they first met and give rare insight into budding romance: ‘He stalked me!’

Tony Armstrong and Rona Glynn-McDonald have revealed how they first met and given an insight into their budding romance in their first interview together.

The 34-year-old ABC News Breakfast sports presenter and his musician girlfriend went public with their romance late last year and the relationship has only gone from strength to strength since then.

Now they’ve opened up about how they first met, with Rona revealing that at the time she was completely unaware that Tony was such a big name in the sporting world.

Speak with Stellar’s DJ Rona joked on the podcast Something To Talk About that Tony was “stalking” her, before explaining that they ran in the same circles.

Tony has been stalking me […] that’s how I always respond to that question. We didn’t know much about each other [before meeting]“We actually moved in similar circles,” she said.

Rona said they almost met a few times before finally meeting at one of Rona’s performances and hitting it off right away.

Rona also confessed that she was unaware of Tony’s fame and public profile before they met, only finding out when other people told her about his career.

She confessed: ‘I saw your Instagram and I think a few people had mentioned your name, and I was like, “Who? Tony who?” I don’t look at that often [Tony’s] 06:00 am [ABC News Breakfast show].

The couple have been together since they made their romance official on Instagram in November last year, after secretly dating for “a while”.

Just weeks after going public with their relationship, they reached a major milestone in their relationship when Tony introduced Rona to his beloved mother at Christmas.

On Boxing Day, he shared a heartwarming photo of Rona on Instagram showing them celebrating the holidays together as he hugs his mother Margaret.

“Full of hearts, can’t lose,” Tony captioned the photo, proving just how serious their relationship is becoming.

Tony told Ny Breaking Australia at the 2023 TikTok Awards that things have gotten serious between the two and said he’s happy his fans are embracing the relationship.

“It’s just nice that people know now,” Tony said. “We’ve been together for a while now. I’m happy. [Life] has just been good lately.’

Rona is a successful Kaytetye woman who grew up in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) in Arrernte Country.

In addition to her work as a musician, she works primarily with First Nations organisations to develop and advise on economic systems that assist Indigenous Australians.

Rona is the founder and CEO of Common Ground and Director of First Nations Futures. She was also previously Director of First Nations at YLab.

During her successful career, the Central Australian woman has also worked in policy at the Central Land Council.

Besides her many awards, Rona also enjoys working as an electronic music producer and DJ under the name RONA.

According to her website, she combines ‘the soundscapes of Country and Place with synthesizers and melodies that carry an emotional charge’.

She has played the Falls Festival and opened for Cut Copy and Rufus Du Sol on tour, and recently completed a residency at TripleJ.
