Ruto: Number of govt advisors to be reduced by 50%

President William Ruto has announced plans to slash the number of government advisors by 50% with immediate effect.

During his national address on July 5, 2024, Ruto said his decision came as part of a broader effort to streamline operations and enhance efficiency within the administration.

Further, he revealed that the directive was pressured after a section of Kenyans raised concerns over the government’s expenditure.

“I make this statement to highlight the actions taken in response to overwhelming public feedback in recent days, to fulfil my commitment to continuously and effectively listen to the people of Kenya.

“The following actions shall be taken with immediate effect towards the realisation of the new budget. The number of advisors in government shall be reduced by 50% within the public service, with immediate effect,” Ruto remarked.

In addition, Ruto after having engaged in several consultations said the government settled on cutting down on various costs, including dissolving at least 47 state corporations with overlapping functions.

“47 State Corporations with overlapping and duplicative functions will be dissolved, resulting in the elimination of their operational and maintenance costs, and their functions will be integrated into the respective line ministries.

“Staff currently employed by the affected corporations will be transferred to ministries and other state agencies,” Ruto added.

Further, Ruto suspended the hiring of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) as well as the removal of budgets in the Offices of the First Lady, the Second and the Spouse of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
