Police are negotiating with a man believed to be carrying a crossbow at an address in Victoria Street, Seddon, 7km west of Melbourne’s CBD.
There is said to have been a stabbing prior to the shooting.
There are several heavily armed police officers on the scene. A police helicopter is also flying over the incident.
The street has been closed off while the suspect is spoken to.
The man is believed to be the only person in the building.
Police are advising people to avoid the area but say there is currently no danger to the community.
‘Never seen anything like it. Police everywhere, half of Victoria St cordoned off,’ someone wrote on X.
