Jonas Eidevall has resigned as head coach of Arsenal Women following the club’s disappointing start to the season.

The Gunners have won just one of their four Women’s Super League games and were beaten 5-2 by Bayern Munich in their opening Champions League match.

One Arsenal supporter took a fake P45 to the Emirates on Saturday, where Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by rivals Chelsea, while ‘Jonas Out’ graffiti was also spotted near the stadium.

Mail Sport understands that Eidevall not only faced criticism from fans but also lost the Arsenal dressing room.

Responding to the boos he and his team faced after Saturday’s defeat to Chelsea, Eidevall said: ‘I completely understand that people are disappointed when we don’t win football games, and we are very disappointed.

‘We are really in pain, I am in pain, the players are in pain. We want to do that better, so I completely understand that at that moment. Just as you are allowed to show emotions when we win, you are allowed to show emotions when you lose.

‘They invest everything, they travel, they support us, they really give us everything. I completely understand their frustration when we don’t win football games.’

The club is already five points behind WSL leaders Manchester City and four points behind Chelsea, who have played one game less.

Assistant coach Renee Slegers has been put in charge of the team on an interim basis.

A statement from sporting director Edu Gaspar said: ‘We thank Jonas for his commitment to the club and achievements here since he joined us in 2021.

“We have great respect for the dedication and commitment he has shown to the Women’s First Team and recognize the role he has played in the growth and development of Arsenal Women.
