I am ready to be fired by Ruto if he feels let down – Defence CS Aden Duale

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said he is ready to be sacked if at all he has failed President William Ruto in discharging his mandate.

Speaking during a TV interview on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, Duale observed that Ruto had to reset if the country was to move forward from the crisis brought about by the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Reacting to a remark by Ruto that he had been let down by a section of government officials, Duale said that he was ready to face the axe in case he had anything to do with the president’s misfortune.

“If the President feels I have let him down as Minister for Defence I want him to do the right thing. Start with me and all the rest who have let him down in the interest of all the people of Kenya and tell us to step aside to have a new team. I am ready, look at me, quote me,” Duale said.

Duale’s public service

Duale remarked that he was an accomplished individual having worked in the government for a long time and that he had camels and a life beyond public service.

“The people of Kenya through former President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto have given me a chance to serve but if I am part of the problem that is bedevilling the country called Kenya and our state affairs, let him start with me,” Duale noted.

He advised the president to listen to the active voices of the youth, urging that politicians who have been heavily reliant on playing the tribe card were in for a big shock in the next general election.

“The President must reset. We have to listen to the vital voices and they are categorically saying we are tribeless,” Duale added.

The CS noted that this was the right moment for the president to reorganise his cabinet and that anyone who has let him down should not be spared.

“Anybody he feels is baggage or feels should come out of the bus he is driving, he should do it, including me, Duale noted.

The remarks come amid calls by the Senate and the Gen Zs for the president to fire all public officials involved in corruption.

On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot urged the President to make drastic changes in his government in the wake of intensified calls to reduce government largesse and cut down corruption.
