The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has hailed Gen Zs saying they have awakened the conscience of the nation.

Led by NCIC Chairman Samuel Kobia, NCIC noted that there has been a significant change in behaviour among politicians since the Gen Zs began taking interest and showing concern about national issues affecting them.

Expressing optimism, Kobia added that there would be a difference in the country’s progress if politicians change their behaviour.

“The Gen-Zs awakened the conscience of the nation. We started seeing a change of behaviour in our politicians. If politicians behave well in this country, there will be a difference in the building of this nation.

He also advocated for youth empowerment saying the young people of the nation are active participants in shaping public narrative as they bring forth fresh perspectives to long standing issues affecting the country.

“We need to empower youth voices. The youth are active participants in shaping the public narrative. They challenge the status quo and bring a fresh perspective to long-standing issues,” he added.

In the same breath, NCIC weighed in on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment motion.

The commission warned that the country’s unity would be at threat should the Senate impeach the DP, he additionally warned that if the impeachment is successful there could be conflicts between the people of Mt Kenya and other parts of the country.

“Our major concern is that the way DP Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment process is shaping up could easily lead to conflicts between the people of Mt Kenya area and people from other parts of the country, this is what we are worried about,” the commmission’s chair said.
