Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Members of Parliament (MPs) are set to wear black in solidarity with the protesters taking part in the ongoing anti-Finance Bill demonstrations.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of Communication Philip Etale, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, revealed that during Tuesday’s protests, its legislators will unite with Kenyans in the fight against the proposed Finance Bill 2024.
Etale further stated that the young generation is relentlessly fighting for the rights of Kenyans.
“To stand in solidarity with Kenyans and particularly the Gen Zs who are working round the clock to fight for the rights of Kenyans, all Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition legislators will wear BLACK while on duty today. The message is clear #REJECTFİNANCEBILL2024,” Etale said.
Anti-Finance Bill demos
Activist Boniface Mwangi on June 21, 2024, issued a seven-day plan of action for the protest after 204 MPs on June 20, 2024, okayed the controversial Bill to go to the second reading despite public outcry.
Mwangi outlined activities that will take place during the seven days of rage.
Today, which is the fifth day of the rage, protesters are set to occupy Parliament.
The activist further disclosed that on June 26, there will be a march to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority,
(IPOA) and Inspector General of Police offices demanding justice for the slain anti-Finance Bill protester Rex who succumbed to gunshot wounds.
“Day 6. Wednesday, June 26, 2024 Justice for Rex. Visit IPOA and the IG of Police demanding #JusticeForRex,” Boniface said.
According to the seven-day rage action plan, on the last day on Thursday, June 27, 2024, all major roads leading to Nairobi will be blocked and the protestors will occupy StateHouse.
