Tourist Police apprehended a man from Loei Province for breaking into a kindergarten classroom in Si Racha, Chon Buri, and stealing two Samsung flat-screen televisions.
The suspect, identified as 26 year old Prawit was arrested following a warrant issued by Chon Buri Provincial Court on June 6, which charged him with theft in a government building.
Tourist Police Lieutenant Kritporn Saengsura revealed that the arrest took place yesterday along the road of Siwarom Village in Thung Sukhla Subdistrict, Si Racha District.
The incident dates back to May 26 when a kindergarten in Si Racha was burglarised. The perpetrator, described as a male standing approximately 170 to 180 centimetres tall, broke into the classroom at night and stole two 50-inch Samsung flat-screen televisions used for educational purposes.
Following the break-in, the thief fled the scene, leaving behind clothing and tools used in the burglary. The school promptly reported the incident to the Si Racha Police Station. The investigative teams began gathering evidence and clues, eventually identifying the suspect as Prawit, who had a history of similar thefts.
Officers tracked Prawit to his location and conducted a search of his residence, where they found the stolen televisions. Upon his arrest, Prawit confessed to the crime, stating that he had committed the burglary because he was unemployed and needed money.
He admitted to selling stolen goods on social media to fund his expenses and leisure activities.
“I did it because I had no job and no income. I would sell the stolen items online and use the money for my expenses and entertainment.”
The police have taken Prawit into custody and collected the televisions as evidence. He will face prosecution as per legal procedures, reported KhaoSod.
While this incident ended with the recovery of the stolen items and the apprehension of the suspect, it raised awareness about the broader issue of unemployment and its potential link to criminal behaviour.
