Taylor Swift op-ed writer is SLAMMED after claiming the popstar is ‘not a good role model’ because she is ’34, unmarried and childless’

Taylor Swift has a lot of songs about feminism – and her ‘f*** the patriarchy’ attitude seems to have struck a chord with one conservative journalist.

John MacGhlionn was criticized for accusing Swift, whose Eras Tour is the most successful concert tour of all time, of being a bad influence on young girls.

In the Newsweek article titled Taylor Swift is not a good role modelGhilonn claimed the singer was setting a bad example, as she is “34, single and childless” and failed to address the matter with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

The opinion writer wrote the piece last week to “counter” the Taylor-mania sweeping the world – and was quickly ridiculed for his “woman-hating” views from the 1950s.

In his piece, he argued that while the pop star’s “talent for sparking conversations, creating engagement and making a profit is commendable,” she is not a good role model for young girls.

Ghilonn commented on Swift’s previous relationships, saying that her marital status was a big part of her role modeling. She indicated that the fact that she wasn’t married was almost the only reason for girls to look elsewhere for a copycat.

While acknowledging her “musical talent and business acumen,” the researcher and essayist argued that “rather than encouraging young girls to view the ‘Swift standard’ as the norm,” they should be encouraged to aspire to a romantic lifestyle that was “a little… healthier.”

“Would any loving parent reading this want their daughter to date twelve different men in a few years?” he argued in the piece.

“This is not an attack on Swift; it’s a legitimate question worth asking.”

Ghilionn declined to comment on the fact that Swift’s boyfriend Kelce is also single and 34 — a fact that was immediately pointed out by outraged readers.

Some readers called them an “incel misogynist coward” and angry users shared their thoughts on X, formerly known as Twitter.

‘What the f*** is this misogynistic bullshit from @Newsweek?! Taylor Swift is not a role model because she’s “single and childless” what the hell? Written by a man of course but you should be ashamed of yourself for publishing this meaningless bullshit,’ one wrote.

“No man has ever been criticized in the media for being a ‘bad role model for boys’ just because he was ’34, single and childless,’” said another.

Someone else wrote: ‘Young girls shouldn’t have to aspire to marriage and children. I personally have no interest in Taylor Swift but there are worse role models than someone who clearly works hard and is financially independent and has also made huge donations to food banks.’

A fourth chimed in: ‘This man clearly doesn’t understand patriarchy. Mansplaining feminism, patriarchy, and who is and isn’t a female role model.’

Despite the heavy criticism, some users praised Ghlionn for sharing his bold views.

“It’s a point of view. Everyone is entitled to one. I personally wouldn’t want my daughter to pursue empty fame. Money and the adulation of the masses are often a poor solace in later life,” wrote one user.

“Personally, I love how woke feminazis are affected by this,” another snapped.

“If there’s nothing wrong with being single and childless, then what are you so angry about?”

Ghlionn has since deleted his X account.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Newsweek and Ghlionn for comment.
