In a statement posted on her X account on Monday, June 24, 2024, Omanga praised the move as a significant step toward greater inclusivity.
“Yesterday, the president said Gen Z will be included in the national decision-making processes as a measure to enhance inclusivity. I think this is an important step as the young people progressively grab seats at the table rather than being on the menu. Young people are winning,” Omanga stated.
President Ruto ready to talk
President Ruto expressed his willingness to engage with young protesters opposing the stringent tax laws introduced by his administration.
Speaking during a Sunday Service at the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) in Nyahururu on Sunday, June 24, 2024, President Ruto conveyed that the government had heard the voices of the youth (Gen-Z) and was prepared to engage in dialogue with them.
The President also defended the proposed Finance Bill 2024, stating that its objective is to improve youth employment opportunities.
“I am very proud of our young people for stepping forward, tribeless and peaceful. I assure them that we are concerned about their issues. In this year’s budget, I have enhanced digital jobs because we acknowledge the challenge of unemployment in the county,” Ruto said.
The president further commended Gen-Z for fulfilling their democratic responsibilities and emphasized their importance in national discourse.
“I’m proud of them. We’ll have a conversation with you to identify your issues and work together as a nation,” he assured the Kenyan youth.
President Ruto also appealed to the clergy to continue praying for him, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, and the entire country.
Additionally, Ruto explained that the government had set aside Ksh10 billion for the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in the 2024/2025 financial year budget. These funds will be used for student bursaries and other constituency-level development projects.
He also mentioned that the government plans to increase funding for bursaries and loans through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
