- Laurie Daley made a mess of his lyrics live on television
- Footy legend botched three attempts to read the odds
Former NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley has had an embarrassing moment when she tried to read out a simple statement about women’s State of Origin on live television.
Canberra legend Daley appeared on Fox Sports’ Sunday Night With Matty Johns to provide the best bets for the upcoming week of football in his regular role on the programme.
New South Wales are the favorites to win the decider in the women’s State of Origin series when the teams play on Thursday evening, but the former football star was unable to convey that simple fact without a little help.
He was supposed to inform viewers that Queensland paid $2.05 for the win, while NSW paid $1.77.
“New South Wales clearly needs to travel to North Queensland – they’re $1.77 outsiders,” Daley incorrectly told viewers before realizing his mistake.

‘Um, sorry – New South Wales is $1.77 favourite, while Queensland are the outsiders…’
‘Sorry, I’ll start over again. Queensland is the favorite at $2.05. New South Wales is the underdog at…’
The live audience burst into laughter at that point and Daley was saved by the show’s presenters, who were also giggling.
“The other way around…” said co-host Nathan Hindmarsh.
Smiling co-host Bryan Fletcher then reached over to pat Daley on the knee as the audience cheered.
Meanwhile, NSW insist they will not be deterred as the weather forecast predicts more rain for the decider of the inaugural women’s Origin series.
In the words of NSW center Jess Sergis, the sides were like ‘pigs in mud’ as torrential rain poured down during the second match in Newcastle earlier this month.
After the whistle blew following Queensland’s miraculous 11-10 win, frustrated NSW coach Kylie Hilder admitted rain had stopped the Sky Blues from playing their brand of football.

Conditions had made it difficult for the Sky Blues to activate their all-star outside backline, which had been key to victory in the series opener.
“To explain it to everyone, I said we were literally pigs stuck in the mud,” Sergis said ahead of Thursday’s decider in Townsville.
‘That’s what it felt like, running around, stomping and the water came up to your thighs.
‘I’ve never played in such conditions before.’
