Babu Owino castigates Ruto over plight of 12-year-boy shot in Ongata Rongai

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has reprimanded President William Ruto on how he is handling and responding to abductions and shootings of anti-Finance Bill 2024 protesters.

Addressing the press on Monday, July 1, 2024, Babu expressed his disappointment noting that he was surprised that the President was unaware of a 12-year-old reportedly shot eight times in Ongata Rongai.

“I really want to express my disappointment with how Ruto handles issues in this country. Clearly, Ruto is a visitor to Kenya. It was shown yesterday by the fact that he didn’t even know that people are dying in Kenya. He didn’t even know the plight of a child who police officers shot,” Babu Owino stated.

He alluded to Ruto’s campaign statement where he cautioned the then regime against targeting his children due to political differences.

However, Babu Owino pointed out that Ruto was doing the opposite of what he preached against before taking over the instruments of power.

“In 2022, he was telling the then regime that do anything to me but do not touch my children,” Babu insisted.

Alfred Keter’s abduction ordeal

At the same time, Babu Owino castigated the current regime following the abduction of Alfred Keter on Sunday, June 30, 2024. Keter was in the company of his wife and children when their car, a Toyota Land Cruiser, was blocked by a Ford Ranger double-cabin along Nyeri Road in the shocking incident.

The former MP was then forcefully pulled out of his car as members of the public watched on, with some screaming as Keter resisted the abduction.

He was bundled into the pickup which then drove off, leaving his wife and kids utterly shocked.

Reacting to the ordeal, Babu noted that he was disappointed in how the government handled the whole situation that left Keter’s family in shock.

Babu insisted that Keter’s family didn’t have to witness such a horrifying abduction ordeal.

“What he did to Keter’s family is so disrespectful. Fate has a destiny with you (Ruto),” Babu Owino stated.

Babu was accompanied by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other lawmakers. Keter had presented himself for further questioning after he was released on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

Addressing the media, Keter stated that he was questioned over his connection with Gachagua and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
