After dragging England into extra time following a lacklustre performance against Slovakia, Nathan Salt questioned Jude Bellingham’s decision to apparently target the England supporters during It’s All Kicking Off.

The round of 16 match offered Gareth Southgate’s team the chance to exorcise the demons that seemed to haunt England throughout the tournament, despite a strong defensive policy.

While Kobbie Mainoo was given his first start of the tournament, Southgate opted to stick with a front four that has so far failed to fulfil its enormous collective talent in Germany.

Once again England struggled, chasing Ivan Schranz’s opening goal for an hour before a moment of brilliant stoppage-time play from Jude Bellingham kept the country’s hopes alive.

Harry Kane headed the ball in almost immediately after half-time and secured an exciting victory. He also set up a confrontation with Switzerland, but it was mainly Bellingham’s comments that made an impression.

After the match, Salt insisted he did not understand the Real Madrid star’s comments about the England fans.

Dominic King said Bellingham should be given the “benefit of the doubt” for his comments, especially given the dramatic circumstances leading up to them.
