Severe weather warning issued for 37 provinces, including Bangkok

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a severe weather warning for 37 provinces, including Bangkok, predicting heavy rainfall across 60% of the area. Citizens are advised to be cautious of potential flash floods and forest runoff.

The forecast for the next 24 hours indicates that the southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand is relatively strong. Additionally, a low-pressure system is affecting the upper part of Vietnam and the central South China Sea.

This weather pattern is expected to result in increased rainfall and heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, particularly in the eastern and southwestern regions of Thailand. People living in these regions are urged to be on high alert for dangerous conditions, including sudden flooding and swift water flow, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying regions.

Regarding marine conditions, the Andaman Sea will experience waves ranging from2 to 3 metres high, with stormy areas seeing waves exceeding 3 metres. The Gulf of Thailand will have waves between 1 to 2 metres, with stormy areas experiencing waves higher than 2 metres.

Mariners are advised to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas. Small boats in the Andaman Sea should remain ashore.

The weather forecast for various regions of Thailand from 6am today to 6am tomorrow is as follows:

The northern region will experience thunderstorms in 40% of the area, mainly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Tak, and Kamphaeng Phet provinces. Temperatures will range from 24 to 27 degrees Celcius at the lowest to 34 to 37°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds blowing at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

In the northeastern region, thunderstorms are expected in 60% of the area, with heavy rainfall in some places like Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Si Sa Ket, and Ubon Ratchathani. Temperatures will range from 25 to 27°C at the lowest to 34 to 37°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds at10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

Other regions

The central region will see thunderstorms in 40% of the area, with heavy rainfall in some parts, particularly in Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Samut Songkhram provinces. Temperatures will range from 25 to 27°C at the lowest to 35 to 37°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 25 kilometres per hour.

In the eastern region, thunderstorms are expected in 70% of the area, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts, especially in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces. Temperatures will range from 25 to 28°C at the lowest to 31 to 35°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds at 20 to 35 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves around 2 metres high, and stormy areas will see waves higher than 2 metres.

The southern region (eastern coast) will experience thunderstorms in 40% of the area, mainly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Songkhla provinces. Temperatures will range from 24 to 27°C at the lowest to 33 to 35°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds at 15 to 35 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves between 1 and 2 metres, and stormy areas will see waves higher than 2 metres.

The southern region (western coast) will see thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts, particularly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, and Trang provinces. Temperatures will range from 24 to 25°C at the lowest to 29 to 32°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds at 20 to 40 kilometres per hour. The sea will see waves between 2 to 3 metres, and stormy areas will see waves higher than 3 metres.

Bangkok and its vicinity will experience thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with temperatures ranging from 26 to 28°C at the lowest to 34 to 36°C at the highest. Southwesterly winds will blow at 10 to 25 kilometres per hour.

TMD has urged residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property from the severe weather conditions expected today, reported KhaoSod.
