A high school student tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident when he collided with a parked 10-wheeler truck while on his way to school. The incident occurred at 7.30am today, June 20, on the Nang Rong-Pakham road, near the entrance to Sub Phra Ya Subdistrict, Nang Rong District, Buriram Province.

Police Lieutenant Weerawut Ratprakhon, Deputy Inspector of Nong Sai Police Station, received the report and immediately proceeded to the scene with the Siam Ruamjai Pu In Rescue Unit. Upon arrival, they discovered a Honda Wave motorcycle, registered in Buriram, that had crashed into the rear of a 10-wheeler truck, registered in Bangkok.

The victim, identified as Korakot, a 17 year old high school student, was found still astride his motorcycle, wearing his school’s physical education uniform and carrying a school bag. The motorcycle’s right turn signal was still flashing, and there were visible brake marks on the road leading up to the truck. Korakot sustained severe facial injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation suggested that Korakot might have seen the parked truck and attempted to change lanes by turning right. However, he was unable to do so, possibly due to an approaching vehicle from behind, leaving him no space to manoeuvre around the truck.

The driver of the 10-wheeler, 29 year old Somporn, explained that he was transporting instant noodles from Chonburi to Buriram. He parked the truck by the roadside to take a short nap due to fatigue.

“I had been parked for less than 20 minutes when I heard a loud noise from the rear of the truck. Upon checking, I found that a student had crashed into the back.”

Further examination of the scene revealed skid marks from Korakot’s motorcycle, indicating he had attempted to brake before the collision. Investigators hypothesised that he noticed the stationary truck and signalled to turn right. However, the inability to change lanes due to another vehicle might have forced him into the collision, reported KhaoSod.

Police continue to investigate the exact cause of the accident to determine if any additional factors contributed to the tragic incident.
