The police officer who opened fire on a crowd of protesters in Nairobi during recent anti-Finance Bill demonstrations has been identified as Isaiah Murangiri Ndumba alias Dumba. Murangiri was captured in a since-gone viral video wearing a blue shirt and grey pants shooting into a group of bystanders while his colleagues dealt with arrested protesters. He then got into the waiting police Land Cruiser.
In a separate incident causing more public outcry, Murangiri was identified as the officer who allegedly shot and killed 29-year-old protester Rex Kanyike Masai in Nairobi CBD.
A video shows Murangiri running after Finance Bill protesters and firing repeatedly, hitting Masai in the thigh and causing him to bleed out.
More Details of Isaiah Murangiri
Before his career as a rogue killer cop, Murangiri worked as a mitumba man, selling second hand clothes.
According to details uncovered by online sleuths, Murangiri, 37, joined the police force in 2013. And he answers directly to the Office of the President.
Murangiri seemingly has two sides; besides being a rogue killer cop, he is a family man. He is married to Faith Kirimi, 31, and they have four sons born between 2014 and 2022.
He is reportedly an errand boy for the Central Police Station OCPD.
Kenyans are deeply concerned by the reckless use of force by law enforcement officers.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into both incidents to determine the circumstances surrounding Murangiri’s actions.
Meanwhile, online platforms have been ablaze with demands for accountability and transparency in policing practices.
Netizens have vowed to take matter into their own hands if Murangiri is not apprehended.
