Tones and I opened up early in her career about the ongoing body-shaming in the music industry.

The Australian singer shared a candid post on Instagram on Wednesday, admitting that she had faced many setbacks in her career as she announced the release of her new album.

Tones, born Toni Watson, revealed how people in the music industry and the public told her she would never make it because she wasn’t pretty enough.

Sharing a clip from filming her new music video, she wrote: “POV: You used to wear prosthetics to hide your face when the world told you you weren’t pretty enough for the industry.”

‘Now we realize that that doesn’t help anyone. Not you or the queens who need you.”

In the caption, she also explained how she had to “fight tooth and nail into a position” she wanted to achieve.

“I never really openly address how this industry (including the public) has failed me, until now, as I worked tooth and nail into a position that I statistically deserved, but which the first glance was always substandard. attack,” she wrote.

“I remained calm amidst the hate, threats and body shaming and continued to keep my head down and find my happiness in human interactions.

‘I sing about dreams, but have never added any insight into how to achieve yours. That is my fault and honestly it was purely based on my lack of confidence in the weight my words would carry,” she continued.

‘For a long time I was a ‘song’ and not a person, and for many people I still am. That’s fine by me, but for the people who care, I have more to give, which I always have, but you just didn’t want to see it.”

Tones ended: ‘So my name is Tones, my album is just beautiful, it’s coming out on August 2nd! it’s nice to meet you.. again.’

It comes after Tones stunned her followers and celebrity friends with her remarkable weight loss last month.

She was showered with praise, with several of her A-list friends complimenting the pop star.

“Hot, talented, beautiful, amazing etc etc,” Australian singer Thelma Plum wrote in the comments, while American rapper Macklemore added heart and fire emojis.

Radio star Brittany Hockley chimed in: “Girllllll, it’s because of YOU. Incredible’ while American reality star Chrishell Stause added heart emojis.

“Wowowowowow,” Married At First Sight’s Martha Kalifatidis said, while Australian singer Amy Shark said, “Get em.”

The singer, whose weight loss has made headlines in recent months, sported a noticeably slimmer figure as she danced up a storm with her band.
